Lingerie as Outerwear: Jet Set Glam
It’s pouring down rain right now and turning the streets and sidewalks into a virtual slush river. Ick! I think the thing I dislike the most about his weather is the icy, stabbing slide of water trickling down my neck. My kingdom for an umbrella I won’t lose the second I leave the house!
Today’s outfit is going to be a little bit covered up and a little bit warmish because I haven’t been able to shake this chill for a few days now. Our destination, to justify this wicked outfit, is London, England, which is an odd choice isn’t it, if I’m really trying to escape the slush and snow... But there you have it! This is more about enjoying the nightlife and great theater and hot spots, rather than schlepping around the streets on a walking tour. This all starts with a rather detailed little babydoll that doesn’t want to be relegated to the bedroom! Break it out of the sheets and let it live! Initially, I was going to suggest pairing it with this lovely Lola Haze Teddy for modesty and opacity’s sake, but I don’t want to complicate Priscilla Jade’s designs with mesh from the body suit showing through. So instead, I would suggest a soft bra from Luca that shouldn’t detract from the ruched sheer panels.
A sexy pair of black slacks and easy to wear classic boots were an easy choice, but I didn’t want to make this a super sexy funeral outfit... after all, the theater demands a little drama, so I’ve chosen a beautiful, cream blazer with a skinny, little, black belt at the waist. Throw in a sexy wide brimmed hat (which you MUST take off when seated watching a show) and you’ve become an International woman of mystery! Cooler than James Bond, because even he hasn’t figure out how to incorporate his undies and lingerie into his everyday wardrobe choices. (Although that swimsuit Daniel Craig wears in Casino Royal is simply...sigh)
Whoops, back to the outfit. With such classic pieces and timeless choices, I think the jewelry can be understated and really feature quality and luxury, over flash and shine. It will compliment the outfit, but take a backseat.
A deep berry hue on the lips will keep up our classy femme fatale look augmented by the multi-layered perfume from Heaven’s Alchemy. You can bet that your teeny, tiny clutch that’s just big enough for your passport, Chanel lipstick and cash is all you need and won’t get you thrown off the flight for breaking liquid restrictions.
1. Priscillia Jade Adam Babydoll:The thin spaghetti straps and delicate mesh work beautifully with the soft stretch lace on the sides and the gathered folds of the ruched mesh. The short hemline of the babydoll works perfectly as a tunic over the pants. The stretch and give of the materials will have you dancing through Piccadilly Circus on your way to the show.
2. Bali Mother-of-Pearl Filigree Silver Ring:This ring has an old world charm that echoes the retro feel of the blazer and the necklace. Without glaring colors or rude flashing shine, this understated ring will adorn your finger without getting in the way of your evening.
3. Betina Soft Cup Bra Set by Luca Lingerie:The babydoll is technically opaque enough to get away with not wearing any extra layers, however, you might enjoy the extra lift and knowledge that there won’t be any impromptu Jennifer-Lopez-at-the-Oscars moments. It’s also still winter (Curse you groundhog! shakes fist menacingly in it’s general direction) and it never hurts to have a few extra layers on.
4. Ileana Makri Diamond Shield Ring:While the black diamonds are incredible, I’m far more fascinated by the gentle curves of this shield-like ring. Doesn’t it make you want to just squeal?
5. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in 41 L’Equise:A bold lip color is a gutsy choice. Almost as gutsy as wearing that wide brimmed hat and just as classic a look. Paired up with a cream blazer you have old Hollywood style coming out your yin yang!
6. Lois Hill 'Silver Flat Geo' Square Cutout Ring: This ring is really cool and I think I know why. You see, the gently swirling filigree is further strengthened by the rounded edges of the square-ish shape. Don’t you just love it?
7. Lanvin Wide-Brim Felt Hat: Okay, now this might be a wee bit too Four Weddings and a Funeral, but I just couldn’t resist. The wide brim is luscious and you’ll create a sensation in it, wherever you go!
8. Kayu Alyssa Shell and Wood Clutch: Anyone can carry a regular old designer bag, which is why I always say, “Be an individual and choose what you love”. I love the look of fine wood grain and am a total sucker for inlaid shell, so this was a natural choice. Admit it, you’re in deep smit over it now, aren’t you?
9. Christian Louboutin Bourge 100 Boots: You know I love me a tall boot and just because we’re wearing long pants, doesn’t mean they aren’t right choice. They bring a certain power and charm don’t they? The lack of laces and embellishments will ensure that there’s nothing to snag on the pants.
10. Roland Mouret Fevell Belted Satin-Twill Jacket: This is so much more than a blazer. The creamy satin, super thin black belt and the longer length of the hemline create a vintage 1940’s feel that brings a sense of nostalgia and glamour. The neckline will allow more than a tease of the sexy mesh to peek out without showing too much. You’ll be equally at home sipping tea with aristocrats or whooping it up in a nightclub with young prince Harry.
11. Heaven's Alchemy Dubai Perfume Tassel Traveler: The invigorating citrus and delicate floral notes of this perfume are intoxicatingly sophisticated and therefore the perfect match to this beautiful outfit.
12. John Hardy Sterling silver and sapphire dragon wrap bracelet:: I think every woman should have a little dragon slinking around their wrist, especially if that dragon is as stylish as this black sapphire embellished sterling silver bracelet.
13. Donna Karan Black Pull On Pants:These pants looks so comfy. From the thin waistband to the flowing wide legs. They have a grace and movement that will compliment the fluidity of the babydoll and the blazer. Once again, Donna Karan shows us how to do the basics with style.
14. Bisou Bijoux Fatal Cameo Necklace:Okay, truth time... I kinda fell for this cameo necklace because of the name. Seriously though, fatal cameo... that’s pretty darned neat isn’t it? The chain is wicked , stripped back and functional and the muted tones of the cameo are perfect for showing off the graceful lady.
You won’t need much more than this for a fabulous night out and let’s face it, you’re only flying in for dinner and show and they hightailing it back to your own country. No need to think about anything else!
I’m thinking something a little more flirty, delicate and feminine for next week so be sure to check back in as I flip the coin and choose a destination.
Cheers,
